Established in 2011, the Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability (IEES) of CUHK aims to address complex environmental issues threatening the sustainability of human survival through multidisciplinary research. Serving as a platform for our strong team of fellows from several faculties of CUHK to collaborate with academic departments, local organizations and international partners, IEES has been conducting impactful research and transferring knowledge in multiple areas. These areas include, but are not limited to, (1) climate system and climate change; (2) air and water pollution; (3) green energy and technology; (4) sustainable food systems; and (5) biodiversity and conservation. We pledge to generate new knowledge and technology, as well as formulate policy for a sustainable environment.
Internationally, we are honoured to host the “CUHK – University of Exeter Joint Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Resilience” (ENSURE), which embarks on large, impactful interdisciplinary collaborations to tackle emerging issues related to environmental threats including climate change, air and water pollution, and biodiversity loss.
In Hong Kong, we are grateful for the support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charity Trust for the Jockey Club “Field So Good” Community Composting Programme. A joint endeavour between IEES and a local NGO, the Programme promotes the use of compost in the local community by degrading food waste to developing “MixO’ Plus Organic Compost”, the first and the only certified compost in the local market.
Welcome to explore more about our diversified environmental research works.
