Position

Housed under Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability (IEES) with contributions from Faculty of Social Science (SSF), the CUSP (Centre for Urban-Rural Sustainable Placemaking) adds to CUHK’s research capacity in urban-rural symbiosis and sustainable placemaking. The CUSP examines dynamic relationships between urban and rural landscapes to consolidate potential pathways towards sustainable development. Through interdisciplinary action research, CUSP aspires to impactful innovations that address challenges in our age of global urbanization. CUSP works in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organisations, professionals and various community stakeholders to engender place-based urban-rural regeneration.

 

Mission

The CUSP aims to:

  • provide a platform for conducting innovative, multi-disciplinary and action research on urban-rural symbiosis in the region
  • bridge policy and strategic overviews and to innovate sustainable prototypes through forging proactive partnership
  • provide solid and systematic training for budding academics involved in rural revitalisation and sustainable development
  • actively engage in knowledge transfer and to educate the public on its importance for sustainable placemaking
